Tupu Edición Limitada

Tupu Edición Limitada

Tupu is a mapuche jewel symbolizing union. We merged our best grapes of Carménère, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec, and kept the must for 16 months in French oak barrels. When you open a bottle of Tupu, a complex aromatic scale appears and emerges in crescendo as you move the glass: plum, fig, sour cherry, blackberry and hazelnut. A very good attack, good acidity, soft and round tannins, good body and structure. Then, the aromatic complexity reappears, in a delicious blend of fresh and dry red berries, and a soft spicy hint. Excellent combination completed by a long and delicious finish.

Santa Cruz Reserva Especial

Santa Cruz Reserva Especial

Santa Cruz is harvested from the foot of our hills in Lolol, almost at the end of the season, aging for more than two years in barrels and resting for 12 months inside the bottle. The Lolol Valley in particular is a spectacular place for growing Petit Verdot: its dry and moderately warm climate helps to express all the tannic power and its fruit in a fine and elegant manner. We decided to use 10% of the Carménère originating from the same vineyard in the final blend, thus obtaining a higher complexity and fruity expression.

A magic process

Winemaking by gravity

  1. Grape receiving area

    Grape receiving area

The grape receiving area is the place where the grape is received, processed and selected. The harvested grape is laid on a belt conveyor, allowing the elimination of anything but the grape clusters and, then, feed the destemmer, which separates the berries from the stem. The berries fall on a vibrating table, to be carefully and manually selected.

  2. Fermentation room

    Fermentation room

Once they are selected, the berries pass through a crusher, which breaks the skin of the berries, so that the must comes out easily to ferment later. Under gravity, the must falls in different tanks through a higher hatch. Thus, in this room equipped with high technology, the fermentation process begins.

  3. Wine Cellar

    Wine Cellar

Our better wines are aged for months inside this room, sitting on the hill slope, within French oak barrels and under ideal conditions of temperature and humidity. Its situation, in a lower level in relation to the fermentation room, allows using gravity to transfer the wine to the barrels.

Un terroir único

Nuestra Gente

Climate

The Santa Cruz Winery is divided in three areas: El Peral (south), El Huaico (north) and Las Terrazas. The El Peral area, isolated from the rest by hills, receives winds coming from the coast, cold and conveying humidity due to the Humboldt Current.

These winds run through El Peral and face the southern face of the hills, covered by a piece of woodland that absorbs this humidity. Thus, when the wind arrives at the northern face, at El Huaico and Las Terrazas, it is drier – the relative humidity is 50% lower – and up to 3° C warmer.

As a consequence, the grapes maturation does not occur simultaneously in the different areas, so that the harvest may differ in some weeks for the same variety.

Suelos

The types of soil in the Santa Cruz Winery are conditioned by the geomorphological context where they are situated. They are based on a granitoid matrix in different evolutionary stages.

When we observe the landscape surrounding us, we can see that we are inserted in a mountainous canyon converging to the see. This canyon sprang from a glacier that existed here 150.000 years ago.

Later, it became a big river that formed, over the granitoid matrix, alluvial deposits. These merged with rock sediments (colluviums) due to telluric movements. Thus, 14 types of soil formed, with high potential for viticulture and winemaking and with which it is possible to do a unique product.

Varieties

The Santa Cruz Winery grows 160 ha, 140 ha of which stand on flat ground and on foothills, and 20 ha stand in terraces. The grapevine varieties are:

Carménère: 57 ha within fresh and warm areas, on alluvial and colluvial soils;

Cabernet Sauvignon: 46 ha within fresh and warm areas; on flat ground, on alluvio-colluvial soil, and in terraces (northern exposition) on granitoid soil.

Syrah: 26 ha within fresh and warm areas; on flat ground, on alluvio-colluvial soil, and in terraces (southern exposition) on soils ranging from clayey to granitoid.

Merlot: 20 ha within the fresher area, on colluvial soil.

Malbec: 10 ha within the warm area, on alluvio-colluvial soil.

Petit Verdot: 1 ha within the warm area, on granitoid soil.

An unforgettable experience for the soul
